Santa Maria Maddalena is a baroque church in central Lodi with a single nave that stretches down the middle in an unusual oval shape. The sides contain symmetrically arranged niches and small chapels that frame the main space.
The present building was completed in 1719 after an earlier medieval church was destroyed by fire in 1162. The site itself goes back much further, having once occupied the location of an ancient Roman temple.
The frescoes inside celebrate Saint Mary Magdalene with vivid religious scenes painted in the 1750s. These artworks are central to how people experience the space during their visit.
