San Giovanni Battista is a baroque church and minor basilica located on its namesake square in Finale Ligure. The building features a curved facade with statues, a tall bell tower, and inside three aisles separated by marble columns with small chapels lining the walls.
Construction of the church began in 1619 and opened for worship in 1674, with work fully completed in 1780. In 1762 architect Nicola Barella redesigned the facade, and in 1930 Pope Pius XII elevated it to the status of minor basilica.
The church is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, a figure deeply revered in this area. The square in front serves as a gathering place where the community meets, talks, and shares moments together throughout the week.
