Dolmen di Albarosa

Dolmen di Albarosa, Bronze Age dolmen in Bisceglie, Italy.

Description

The Albarosa dolmen is a prehistoric burial chamber with a limestone block corridor that extends several meters. Crossstones divide the interior into separate sections, with the entire structure reaching roughly two meters in height.

History

The burial chamber was built between 2300 and 1750 BC during the Bronze Age. Archaeologists discovered it in 1909 through excavations that revealed clues about its original purpose and period.

Culture

This monument belongs to a cluster of Bronze Age burial chambers scattered across the region. People gathered here to bury their dead and maintain a connection to their ancestors.

Practical

The site sits on an artificial earthen mound in rural terrain accessible by country paths. It is best visited during cooler hours of the day, as the area is open and offers little shade.

Did you know?

The structure rests on a large elliptical mound made of earth and stones that once enclosed the burial chamber. This artificial hill still marks the burial site and remains visible in the landscape today.
