Forte di Monte Burot, Military fort on Monte Burot near Altare and Quiliano, Italy.

Forte di Monte Burot is a military fortress set on a mountain between Altare and Quiliano with a distinctive polygonal layout. The structure is surrounded by a deep moat with two caponiers connected by internal tunnels and passages.

Construction began in 1885 and finished in 1890 as part of a defense project for southwestern Piedmont. It was built during an era when modern fortification techniques were developed to counter new military threats.

The fort was part of a larger defensive network that protected key mountain passages in the region. Its design reflects how people of that era used high ground to monitor and defend lower territories.

The fort sits at 745 meters in elevation with views across surrounding valleys and ridges. Access is available on foot, and sturdy footwear and appropriate layered clothing suit the mountain location.

The fort was armed with several cannons positioned on raised platforms that dominated the surrounding mountain slopes. This strategic arrangement was typical of high-altitude fortifications built during that period.
