Fontana Tancredi, Medieval fountain in Brindisi, Italy.

Fontana Tancredi is a fountain in Brindisi featuring two loggia structures with domed roof coverings and stone basins for water collection. The facade displays decorated coats of arms that identify the various powers that shaped the structure over time.

A ruler of Sicily commissioned this fountain in 1192 to mark his son's marriage to a Byzantine princess. Later renovations in the 1800s transformed the roof design into the domed form that exists today.

The coats of arms displayed on the facade represent connections between the city, its governor, and imperial power from the 1500s. Visitors can see these symbols and understand the political relationships of that era.

The fountain sits along a roadside location near the city entrance and is easily accessible on foot. Visit during daylight hours to see the decorative details clearly against the stone surfaces.

An old drawing from the 1700s shows the fountain once had pointed pyramid-shaped tops instead of the domes visible today. This change reveals how architectural styles shifted as time passed and preferences evolved.
