Fontana del Porto di Ripetta, Baroque fountain in Piazza del Porto di Ripetta, Italy
The fountain features an oval basin with a cylindrical secondary basin, decorated with two intertwined dolphins and a large seashell in the center.
Pope Clement XI commissioned the fountain in 1704 as part of the Ripetta port complex, using travertine stones from the earthquake-damaged Colosseum.
The fountain represents the maritime heritage of Rome, marking the location of a former river port that connected the city with trade routes to Umbria.
Located at coordinates 41.9046168, 12.4751547, the fountain stands near the intersection of Via di Ripetta and Lungotevere Marzio in central Rome.
The structure includes two columns that originally functioned as hydrometers to measure water levels during the Tiber River floods.
