Fontana del Pianto, Monumental fountain in Piazza delle Cinque Scole, Rome, Italy.
The fountain features an elongated bowl on a base with two steps, supporting a circular basin adorned with four gorgon head water spouts.
Pope Gregory XIII commissioned architect Giacomo della Porta to construct the fountain between 1591 and 1593, using marble from the Temple of Serapis.
The fountain received its name from the five synagogues that existed nearby, serving as a water source for the Jewish Ghetto community.
The fountain moved to its current location in 1930 under Pope Pius XI, marked by white bricks at its previous spot on Via Santa Maria del Pianto.
The original decorations included dragons and a Menorah, representing both the Boncompagni family and Judaism, before their removal during Pope Innocent X period.
