The Giardino della Gherardesca spans 4.5 hectares, containing pathways, an Ionic temple, a tepidarium, and numerous plant collections including azaleas.
Constructed between 1472 and 1480 for Bartolommeo Scala, the garden changed ownership to the Medici family through Cardinal Alessandro de Medici in the 17th century.
The garden represents Florence's historical connection between aristocratic residences and nature, featuring architectural elements that reflect Renaissance design principles.
Located at 99 Borgo Pinti, the garden is accessible only to Four Seasons Hotel guests, with limited public access during December's Open Day event.
Landscape architect Pietro Porcinai restored the garden after World War Two, maintaining its status as the largest private garden in Florence.
