Lake Arvo, Artificial reservoir in Province of Cosenza, Italy.
Lake Arvo is an artificial reservoir located in the Sila mountains within Cosenza Province. The water body is held back by a dam constructed from compacted earth that blocks the Arvo, Bufalo, and Fiego rivers.
The reservoir came into existence between 1927 and 1931 when engineers dammed three river systems to create the water body. This engineering project has shaped the Sila landscape for nearly a century.
The lake serves as a filming location where production teams work on various projects under support from the Calabria Film Commission. Visitors walk through landscapes that have been featured in regional audiovisual productions.
Paved roads connect to the lake from several directions, with different entry points suitable for regular cars and off-road vehicles. Most visitors can easily reach various shoreline areas with standard transportation.
The dam holding back the water uses clay and compacted earth rather than concrete, which is unusual for a reservoir of this size. This simple construction method from the 1920s has proven durable over the decades.
