The Lago della Vacca stands at 2358 meters elevation in the Adamello mountain range, covering an area of 0.256 square kilometers.
The concrete gravity dam forming Lago della Vacca was constructed in 1927 to generate hydroelectric power for the local communities.
The reservoir received its name from the adjacent Passo della Vacca, where rock formations create a silhouette resembling a large cow.
The reservoir stores 2.4 million cubic meters of water, supplying the Gaver hydroelectric power plant through controlled releases.
The lake collects water exclusively from summer rainfall and winter snow melt, flowing out through the Rio Laione into the Caffaro River.
