San Pietro in Palazzuolo, Benedictine monastery ruins in Monteverdi Marittimo, Italy.
The monastery structure displays alternating stone and brick layers on its remaining walls, with sections of the left flank and transept still standing.
Founded in 754 by Walfredo, a Lombard noble, the monastery was constructed on the site of a Roman villa and temple dedicated to goddess Bellona.
Several granite columns and marble fragments from the Lombard period were discovered near Badivecchia and are now exhibited in Monteverdi Marittimo museum.
The ruins require traversing unpaved paths to reach the site, which sits on elevated ground offering views of the surrounding Tuscan region.
The monastery retained its function until 1561 when monks relocated to Monteverdi castle, where they maintained a small hospice until 1781.
