Rocca Aldobrandesca

Rocca Aldobrandesca is a medieval fortress in Suvereto made up of a square tower linked to a palace wing. The stone walls feature arrow slits at multiple levels to defend the position from every angle.

The Aldobrandeschi family built this fortress in the 12th century as a defensive stronghold. Over later centuries it gradually transformed into residential spaces, though its military structure remained visible.

The fortress was the seat of the Aldobrandeschi family and embodied their authority in the region. Visitors today can see how the family's influence shaped the surrounding area through their choice of this defensive location.

The fortress sits on a hillside above Suvereto and is best visited during daylight to see the wall and tower details clearly. The location has limited shade, so visiting early morning or late afternoon helps during hot weather.

The main entrance displays a rare Roman arch design that helped the Aldobrandeschi family signal their connection to ancient Roman authority. Inside, residential spaces still show preserved stone columns that once supported wooden floors.
