San Niccolò, Monastery and church complex in Prato, Italy.
The monastery and church of San Niccolò feature colored marble altars, Renaissance tabernacles, and extensive interior frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries.
Cardinal Niccolò da Prato commissioned the construction of this Dominican monastery between 1323 and 1328 to establish a religious community for nuns.
The complex contains numerous artistic works, including frescoes by Tommaso di Pietro and a della Robbia school lavabo in the sacristy.
The religious complex now functions as a Catholic educational institution, offering programs from early childhood through secondary education levels.
The grounds include the Orto di Gosto with its Scala Santa, one of few Italian replicas of the sacred staircase at Saint John in Lateran, Rome.
