Monte Pidocchina, Mountain summit in Tuscany, Italy
Monte Pidocchina is a summit in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines that rises to approximately 1,296 meters. From its peak you can see neighboring mountain ranges and, on clear days, islands in the distance.
Until the late 1980s the mountain hosted a winter sports destination with a ski lift and two slopes on its northern side. The ski operations have since closed and the landscape has transformed.
The mountain forms a natural border between two river valleys in Pistoia province. This geographic role makes it a recognizable landmark for the surrounding region.
The northwestern slopes are marked by telecommunications towers operated by various network providers. The summit is accessible, but the presence of these installations should be noted when visiting.
On clear days the summit offers views of the islands of Elba and Capraia as well as the Apuan Alps and the main Alpine chain. This sweeping vista spans several different landscape regions from a single vantage point.
