All About Apple museum, Computer museum in Savona, Italy
The All About Apple Museum in Savona holds over 10,000 items, most kept in storage, including personal computers, prototypes, monitors, printers, keyboards, mice, disk drives, manuals, brochures, posters, software titles, packages and pins. The displayed pieces are repaired, switched on and working, and visitors can use them. The collection also includes non-Apple machines from Commodore, Atari and Olivetti dating from before the PC era.
In 2002 Alessio Ferraro received a large quantity of Apple material from the new owner of the Ligurian dealer Briano Multimedia, found in a disused warehouse. With his friend William Ghisolfo he turned it into a public museum, first shown in his parents' home. The non-profit association behind it gathered an exhaustive collection through donations, and in May 2005 the first public seat opened in the Peterlin middle school in Quiliano. Since 28 November 2015 it has occupied the old darsena of Savona.
The collection reflects how Apple products shaped everyday life for users, from early portable computers to modern systems. Visitors see here how innovations created in garages became ordinary tools for people.
The museum occupies a former warehouse in the old darsena of Savona, at Piazza De André, beside the cruise passenger terminal, so many passers-by walk right past its Apple Store-style front. The exhibition area and the separate 300 m², 10 m high storage depot are both too small for the collection, which limits how much material can be accepted.
The collection also holds non-Apple machines from before the PC era, such as Commodore, Atari and Olivetti models, kept in the non-public storage. A Boston collector who moved to Finland shipped a whole container of material by sea to the USA route and then by truck from Finland, at his own expense.
