Oratorio di Mocchirolo, Lentate sul Seveso

The Oratorio di Mocchirolo is a prayer house built in Romanesque style in Lentate sul Seveso with a triangular bell tower and rectangular windows set into its marble-decorated exterior. The interior preserves copies of painted frescoes that once created a spiritual atmosphere for those who gathered there.

Lanfranco Porro, a nobleman connected to the Visconti court in Milan, built this prayer house in the second half of the 14th century. The structure emerged as an expression of faith and influence by this wealthy family in the region.

The walls display copies of original frescoes showing Saint Ambrose and the Mystical Marriage of Saint Catherine, while the originals are kept at the Pinacoteca di Brera. These artworks reveal the deep religious beliefs of the family who commissioned the building.

Visiting requires advance reservation since this prayer house stands on private property and only opens during special events such as Ville Aperte in Brianza. It is best to plan ahead and confirm availability before making the trip.

The prayer house preserves a portrait of Stefano Porro near his tomb, showing the connection between this noble family and their personal faith. This intimate memorial is a rare record of how this wealthy family expressed their religious devotion.
