Ospedale Rodolfo Tanzi di Parma

The Ospedale Rodolfo Tanzi features a Renaissance architectural design with symmetrical wings and stone facades extending through multiple buildings in the urban core.

Established in 1201 by philanthropist Rodolfo Tanzi, the hospital initially served as a medical facility for the poor and provided shelter to pilgrims passing through Parma.

The hospital complex contains valuable frescoes depicting works of mercy, which were later transferred to the National Gallery of Parma for preservation.

Although no longer functioning as a medical facility, the building remains open for architectural research and historical documentation about medieval healthcare practices.

The entrance gate displays the original 'OM' initials representing 'Ospedale della Misericordia,' reflecting its early designation as the Hospital of Mercy.
