Oasi Lago di Campolattaro, Nature reserve in Province Benevento, Italy.
The Oasi Lago di Campolattaro is a nature reserve in the province of Benevento that protects wetlands with riparian forests, reed beds, mixed woodlands, and agricultural areas. The landscape spreads across a substantial territory situated at approximately 380 meters elevation.
The protected area was created through the damming of the Tammaro River and was officially established as a WWF oasis in 2003. This designation marked an important step in safeguarding the water territory and its habitats.
The oasis functions as a learning place where visitors discover local ecosystems through guided tours and programs. You can observe nature directly and understand how the waterland habitats work and support life.
The nature reserve can be reached from the SS 88 road, which runs about 20 kilometers from Benevento toward Campobasso. You also have additional access routes available from the A1 and A16 highways.
The territory hosts various bird species including great crested grebes, night herons, little egrets, and seasonal visitors like marsh harriers and different stork types. This variety makes it a particularly valuable place for bird watchers.
