Palazzo Pretorio of Anghiari

Palazzo Pretorio stands on Piazza del Popolo with an L-shaped structure, stone walls, and decorated coats of arms adorning its facade. Today the building serves as the town hall and municipal administrative center for Anghiari.

The palazzo was built in the 14th century as the seat of Florentine government representatives who administered justice in the region. The structure reflects Anghiari's political importance during Florentine rule.

The Council Hall contains paintings donated by local artist Fausto Vagnetti, while the chapel displays frescoes from the 14th century. These rooms show how art and faith were woven into the daily workings of medieval governance.

Archaeological excavations beneath the ground floor uncovered remains of an ancient Roman wine vat. This discovery highlights the deep layers of settlement history hidden below the palazzo.
