Palazzo San Giacomo

Palazzo San Giacomo is a Baroque palace in Russi featuring three main floors with corner towers rising five levels high. The building sits along the Lamone River and connects to an adjacent church through covered passages.

The Rasponi family built this summer residence starting in 1750 on the site of a 12th-century church and castle. This construction transformed an older religious and military location into a noble family residence.

The interior walls display frescoes from the 17th and 18th centuries that reflect the artistic tastes of the family who lived here. These paintings show the regional art traditions that flourished during that period.

The palace is accessible through guided tours organized by the Municipality of Russi on selected weekends. Visitors should check in advance for current opening dates since access is limited to specific times.

The Rasponi family used covered passages connecting the palace to the adjacent church, allowing them to move between buildings without being seen from outside. These hidden walkways reveal how noble families integrated their private and religious spaces.
