Parco del Medio Olona, Nature reserve in Province of Varese, Italy.
Parco del Medio Olona is a nature reserve in the Province of Varese that spreads across forests, farmland, and waterways in the Olona River valley. Two streams flow through the landscape: the Fontanile di Tradate on the eastern side and the Tenore stream to the west.
The reserve was created in 2006 through cooperation between six neighboring municipalities aiming to protect shared natural areas and water resources. This collaboration formed the foundation for connecting with other protected areas across the region.
The park links several communities through cycling paths and serves as a gathering space for outdoor activities. These routes pass through varying landscapes where built-up areas give way to open countryside and wooded sections.
You can enter the reserve from multiple points across the surrounding municipalities, allowing flexible exploration. Wear appropriate footwear for mixed terrain and plan your visit during dry conditions for the best experience.
The Gorla Maggiore woods on the eastern side stand out for their dense forest cover and are fed by year-round springs. This section hosts a variety of woodland wildlife that most visitors overlook while passing through.
