Palazzo della Cavallerizza

Palazzo della Cavallerizza is a palace in Sant'Arcangelo featuring a distinctive C-shaped structure with multiple halls decorated with frescoes. The building contains residential rooms, a throne room, and extensive stable areas that once served the breeding of horses.

The palace was founded in the 14th century by the Della Marra family from Barletta and served as a symbol of regional power. Later it changed hands multiple times, coming under control of other influential noble families including the Carafa, Colonna, and Scardaccione.

The palace was a hub for breeding and training horses, reflecting its importance to the region and its noble families. Visitors can still see the extensive stable areas that show how central this place was to local aristocratic life.

The palace is located roughly three kilometers from Sant'Arcangelo's town center, positioned near the Agri River. Visitors should plan time to explore the large courtyards and exposed stable areas to fully appreciate the scale of the complex.

The building housed a covered training corridor approximately 200 meters long, specifically designed for military horse dressage. This rare structure shows how advanced the training methods were at this center.
