Palazzo Ferro Fini, Renaissance palace in San Marco, Venice
Palazzo Ferro Fini is a palace on the north bank of the Grand Canal in Venice, situated between the Accademia Bridge and St Mark's Square. The building was formed by joining two older structures and today serves as the seat of the Regional Council of Veneto.
The building was formed in the 1860s by merging two separate palaces, Palazzo Morosini Ferro and Palazzo Flangini Fini. After that union, it operated for a time as the Hotel New York before becoming the home of the Regional Council.
The palace reflects Venice's architectural evolution, combining Gothic elements in the Ferro section with Renaissance features in the Fini portion. This layering of different styles is visible on the facade today.
The building is an active government seat and is not regularly open to the public. During certain cultural events or public sessions it may be accessible, so it is worth checking in advance before visiting.
In 2019, floodwater entered the council chambers just hours after the Regional Council voted down measures to address climate change. The timing drew attention around the world and became one of the most discussed moments in the city's recent history.
