Pizzo Formico

Pizzo Formico is a mountain in the Bergamasque Prealps that rises to 1,636 meters elevation. The slopes transition from rocky terrain at higher elevations to grasslands lower down, creating varied landscapes across the mountainside.

Since medieval times, shepherds used the mountain's paths to move their herds between seasonal pastures. These traditional routes remain the foundation of today's hiking network across the area.

Local mountain communities maintain numerous hiking trails across Pizzo Formico, preserving traditional Alpine path-marking techniques and mountaineering practices.

The trail from Gandino is marked and follows a round-trip route covering roughly 13 kilometers. Most hikers take about three hours to reach the top, passing through varying elevations along the way.

On clear days, the summit offers views stretching from the Po Valley flatlands far out to the central Alpine peaks. This makes it a favored spot for hikers seeking wide-ranging mountain perspectives.
