Riserva naturale Duna Feniglia, State nature reserve between Orbetello Lagoon and Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy.
The Duna Feniglia is a state nature reserve on the Tuscan coast that stretches between the Orbetello Lagoon and the Tyrrhenian Sea. A dense pine forest forms a natural barrier between the lagoon and the sea, crisscrossed by walking paths that guide visitors through this rare coastal woodland.
The reserve was privately owned and suffered extensive deforestation until 1910. When the State Forestry Corps took over, they launched a major reforestation effort that transformed the landscape.
The reserve features dedicated paths with tactile experiences and Braille descriptions, enabling visitors with visual impairments to explore the natural environment. These facilities make the space accessible to everyone and show a commitment to inclusive experiences.
The reserve is accessible through two entrances, one from the Aurelia road and another from Argentario, with free access year-round. The terrain is mostly flat, making walking straightforward, and marked paths show the way through the forest and down to the beaches.
The forest is home to a freely roaming deer population that grazes among the stone pines. Every kilometer or so, paths lead down to hidden beaches where you can leave the forest behind and settle onto the sand.
