Riserva naturale della Valle dell'Inferno e Bandella

The reserve spans 531 hectares along the Arno River between Ponte Romito and Ponte dell'Acqua Borra, featuring dense oak forests and wetland areas.

Before the construction of Levane Dam in 1956, the Arno River waters were used by navigators to transport timber from Casentino forests to Florence and Pisa.

Local traditions connect the area to Dante Alighieri, suggesting the landscape influenced passages of the Divine Comedy through its deep valleys and water passages.

The Monticello Visitor Center provides guided tours, while marked paths through the reserve allow independent exploration of the diverse natural environments.

The Bandella wetlands host numerous bird species throughout the seasons, including herons, egrets, and kingfishers that hunt in the shallow waters.
