Military shrine of Asiago

The military shrine features a square base of 80 meters per side with four symmetrical fronts and a central quadriportico reaching 47 meters in height.

The structure, completed in 1936 by architect Orfeo Rossato, contains remains of 54,286 soldiers who died during World War I in the Asiago Plateau battles.

The memorial houses remains from 35 former war cemeteries, including both Italian and Austro-Hungarian soldiers, with 12 Medal of Honor recipients in the central chapel.

The shrine contains directional indicators on its terrace parapet pointing toward significant peaks such as Pasubio, Zebio, Verena, and Cengio for geographical reference.

The remains include 33,086 Italian soldiers, of which 12,795 are identified, and 18,505 Austro-Hungarian soldiers, arranged alphabetically in individual chambers along peripheral galleries.
