Sasso del Ferro

Sasso del Ferro is a mountain summit in Laveno-Mombello that rises to about 1,060 meters, offering views over Lake Maggiore and the surrounding Alpine landscape. The site is accessed via a funicular railway and hiking trails that depart from the town below.

The funicular railway was constructed in the mid-20th century to transport visitors quickly from the village to the summit. This infrastructure made the mountain accessible to people who preferred not to hike.

The summit restaurant serves as a gathering place where people from the region come to enjoy local food and celebrate together. The location blends mountain traditions with the hospitality typical of these high elevations.

You can ride the funicular from town or hike a marked trail of moderate difficulty, depending on your fitness level and available time. A mountain restaurant at the top provides a good place to rest and enjoy the views.

The summit is a popular launch point for hang gliders who take off from dedicated platforms and ride the thermal currents over the lake. It is fascinating to watch the pilots launching if you are not a flyer yourself.
