Galleria Internazionale d'Arte Moderna, Art gallery in Ca' Pesaro palace, Venice, Italy
The Galleria Internazionale d'Arte Moderna occupies Ca' Pesaro, a baroque palace on the Grand Canal with multiple exhibition floors. The collection displays paintings and sculptures from the 19th and 20th centuries by European artists.
The palace was designed in the 17th century by Baldassarre Longhena for the Pesaro family and later converted to a museum. It opened as a gallery in 1897 and grew into a center for modern art from early Venice exhibitions.
The palazzo held works gathered from early Venice Biennale exhibitions, showing how art collection and palace life were intertwined. Visitors encounter the space where such treasures were meant to be lived with rather than just observed.
The building has wheelchair access throughout all floors, allowing visitors to move comfortably through the collections. Staff can provide guidance about the layout and where to find specific exhibitions.
In 2017, the Carraro Collection expanded the holdings with works from 20th-century Italian artists that were previously held in private hands. This addition demonstrated the museum's ongoing growth and ability to incorporate new artistic perspectives.
