Passo di Valcava, Mountain pass and scenic viewpoint at 1340 meters in Lombardia, Italy

Passo di Valcava is a mountain pass in Lombardy that links San Martino Valley in Lecco province with Imagna Valley in Bergamo province. The winding road climbs to approximately 1340 meters elevation and passes through a landscape of forested slopes and open ridges.

This pass became known through professional cycling races in the 1980s, particularly events like the Giro di Lombardia. These competitions established the steep sections as a defining challenge in Italian cycling.

Professional cyclists regularly test their abilities on this challenging route, which features prominently in major Italian cycling competitions including the Giro d'Italia.

The route requires careful planning due to very steep sections with gradients reaching 18 percent. Visitors should allow plenty of time and bring appropriate gear, especially when cycling.

About four kilometers from the summit there is an exceptionally steep section that rises like a wall, forcing many cyclists to walk their bikes. This intense climb stands out as one of the route's most demanding segments.

Elevation above the sea: 1,340 m
