Villa Gavotti, Baroque villa in Albisola Superiore, Italy.
Villa Gavotti is a three-story Baroque residence in Albisola Superiore with terraces extending around its sides, creating open spaces between the building and the surrounding garden. The layout connects the interior rooms to outdoor areas through decorated marble staircases that descend toward water basins.
Francesco Maria della Rovere, the last Doge of Genoa, commissioned the transformation of an earlier medieval structure into a Genovese Baroque residence starting in 1744. The building was redesigned to reflect the architectural style that was fashionable among Genoese nobility at that time.
The rooms inside each represent one of the four seasons through their decorative stucco work, creating spaces that visitors can walk through and experience as visual representations of spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
Access to the villa is limited to special occasions and organized visits arranged through the Albisola Tourism Office and the FAI Savona Delegation. Visitors should contact local tourism services in advance to find out when guided visits are available.
The Italian garden features five water basins, with marble sculptures of mermaids and tritons surrounding the central pool and four smaller fountains nearby. These water-themed sculptures were a common choice among Genoese families who had strong connections to the sea.
