Tower of Teodolinda

The Tower of Teodolinda rises three stories high with a square plan, featuring a barrel vault at ground level and distinctive bifora windows on upper floors.

Built in the 13th century, this structure served as part of Monza's defense system and later became known as Porta Lambro, controlling goods transportation from the river.

The third floor displays two medallions with medieval Monza coats of arms, while the tower's crown exhibits a Guelph merlon design with decorative corbels.

The ground floor of the tower intersects with the street, allowing pedestrians to pass through while the upper levels remain a private residence.

Despite its name honoring Queen Theodelinda, the structure belonged to the Pessina family who collected tariffs on merchandise entering Monza through this gateway.
