Chiesa di San Maurizio

The chiesa di San Maurizio is a church in Monza featuring a tall facade in Lombard Baroque style, marked by terracotta cladding, marble sculptures, and Corinthian capitals. The building connects directly to the Duomo and sits on Piazza Santa Margherita.

The church was originally founded in the 13th century by the Humiliati, a religious community of that period. It underwent complete reconstruction around 1736 under architect Giacomo Antonio Quadrio's direction.

The interior walls display religious frescoes painted in the 1740s, which reflect the artistic style favored by the local community at that time. These works remain visible today and give visitors a sense of the spiritual atmosphere the church was meant to create.

The church is open to visitors during regular hours and can be reached via a direct access from the Duomo. It is best visited when services are not taking place so you can explore the interior and its artworks without interruption.

The entrance portals show an architectural peculiarity where granite columns deliberately misalign with the door frame. This unusual design gives the entryway an unexpected quality that visitors often overlook at first glance.
