Villa La Tana

Villa La Tana is a Renaissance residence in Bagno a Ripoli positioned on a natural terrace accessed by a curved double staircase adorned with statues leading to its main entrance. The property includes two swimming pools, with the external one offering views toward Florence and the internal one built into the building structure.

The villa was originally established by the Bucelli family in the 15th century and gained prominence when Bianca Cappello acquired it in 1570. This acquisition marked the beginning of its transformation into a significant Renaissance-era estate.

The main hall displays marine-themed frescoes painted by Antonio Cioci, surrounded by elaborate stucco work and Venetian terrazzo flooring. These rooms offer a window into the artistic tastes of the Renaissance period.

The property sits on elevated terrain with considerable slope, requiring comfortable footwear for walking. The best time to visit is during spring or fall when weather is mild and the gardens are in full bloom.

The garden features geometric planting beds filled with irises and azaleas, adorned with fountains whose basins are decorated with glass mosaic work and shells. This decorative technique was popular during the Renaissance and blends craftsmanship with garden design.
