Villa Gamberaia, Renaissance villa in Settignano, Italy
The Villa Gamberaia stands on a hillside with four guest houses, surrounded by geometric gardens and water features overlooking the Arno Valley.
Zanobi Lapi, a Florentine merchant, constructed the villa in the early 1600s, incorporating an advanced hydraulic system that remains functional in present times.
The gardens of Villa Gamberaia represent a defining example of Italian landscape design, studied by architects and garden specialists across generations.
The main building offers nine bedrooms for 18 guests, while additional accommodations in separate houses can host 28 more visitors with a minimum stay of three nights.
Princess Catherine Jeanne Ghyka transformed the garden during 1898-1900 by replacing flower beds with reflecting pools that mirror the surrounding landscape.
