Villa di Montalto, Renaissance villa in Salviatino district, Florence, Italy.

Villa di Montalto is a villa in the hills near Florence, set on a wide terrace above Via Benedetto da Maiano. The property has a main building, a separate forester's house, a geometric garden and a section laid out in an English park style.

The estate grew around a 14th-century chapel and was rebuilt in 1885 by Prince Friedrich von Hochberg, who added Central European architectural details. Those additions gave the building the look it still carries today.

The villa became the residence of book collector Tammaro De Marinis, who gathered an extensive library of rare books and artworks within its rooms. His passion for collecting shaped the house and turned it into an important destination for art lovers in the region.

A long avenue of linden and cypress trees leads to the main building and makes it easy to find your way on arrival. The villa is mainly used for private events and meetings, so it is worth checking access conditions before visiting.

Tammaro De Marinis, a book collector who lived in the villa in the 20th century, built one of the most remarkable private libraries of rare books in Italy within these rooms. After his death, many of those volumes found their way to major libraries and museums around the world.
