Villa Pusterla, 16th-century architectural ensemble in Limbiate, Italy
Villa Pusterla is a 16th-century architectural ensemble on a hilltop in Limbiate with a U-shaped layout and a portico connecting two lateral wings. An internal courtyard between these wings opens toward valley views.
Construction took place between the 16th century and 1754 across multiple phases. The site later housed a psychiatric hospital within its grounds during subsequent centuries.
The interior features a stone staircase from Viggiù and painted medallions decorating the ceiling of a ground floor room, both showing the craftsmanship of the period. These details reflect the regional skill that went into finishing the residence.
The grounds are open to the public and situated near Ferrovie Nord Milano rail stations at Bovisio Masciago Mombello and Varedo. Arriving by train from nearby cities is the most practical way to reach the site.
A stepped balcony marks the valley-facing facade and was originally connected to the gardens through an architectural design feature. This connection demonstrates how the building once integrated with its surrounding landscape.
