Villa Torrigiani, Renaissance villa in San Martino alla Palma, Italy.
Villa Torrigiani is a Renaissance villa located in the small village of San Martino alla Palma, near Florence. Its facade combines grey stone, yellow columns, white marble statues, and ochre plaster, while inside there is a curved staircase, a private theater, and rooms decorated with historical wall paintings.
The building was constructed in the second half of the 16th century and went through major changes when it passed to new owners in the late 17th century. Those changes reshaped both the exterior look and the interior furnishings into what visitors see today.
The painted ceilings and decorated walls inside were made by local craftsmen of the period and can still be seen today. Walking through the rooms gives a sense of how wealthy Tuscan families organized their daily life and received guests.
The thick walls of the villa keep the interior at a stable temperature throughout the year, making a visit comfortable in any season. Visitors should plan enough time to move through the different rooms without rushing, as there are many details worth observing.
An avenue of cypress trees about 700 meters long connects the villa to a separate small village that was built specifically to house the servants. That village had its own aviary and fish farm, which supplied the main residence without relying on outside resources.
