Villa della Valle, Modernist villa in Poggio di Marciana, Elba Island, Italy.
Villa della Valle is a modernist residence on Elba Island composed of two distinct structures connected together. The main section features an elliptical shape with glass facades, while the secondary building uses granite materials and has a trapezoidal footprint.
The structure was built between 1958 and 1960 when architect Leonardo Ricci designed it for French fashion designer Pierre Balmain. The original owner sold it to the Neri family in 1970, beginning a new chapter of ownership.
The name refers to its origins as a landed estate, and visitors can still see traces of this heritage today. Gardens filled with plants from around the world and chestnut groves shape how people experience the grounds.
The property draws water from its own wells and sits in a position where you can see both Marciana Marina port and the Poggio settlement. This strategic location makes it easy to get your bearings and explore the surrounding area.
Two anchoring cables secure the elliptical main structure to the ground and the hillside. This careful construction creates an internal walkway that joins both buildings and makes entering the property a distinctive experience.
