Porto Canale Leonardesco, Harbor canal in Cesenatico, Italy.
The Porto Canale Leonardesco is a waterway running through Cesenatico's center, lined with traditional fishing boats and several connecting channels. The system links the town to the Adriatic Sea and is framed by residential buildings, restaurants, and shops.
The canal was built in the 1400s to connect the town to the sea and serve as a harbor. Leonardo da Vinci later studied its structure and made drawings for improvements to the construction.
The canal runs through daily life here, showing how fishermen and residents have always depended on these waters. Traditional wooden boats remain visible along the banks, connecting people to their seafaring past.
You can walk on both sides of the canal and reach restaurants, the fish market, and several bridges for crossing. The paths are level and easy to navigate, especially in early mornings when fishing activity is most visible.
The waters host a floating maritime museum with traditional vessels that can be visited throughout the year. In December, the canal transforms into an outdoor display featuring a nativity scene with a seafaring theme.
