Forte Ardietti is a military fort near Ponti sul Mincio featuring an octagonal plan with three double caponiers. The structure uses stone masonry from Monte Pastello with brick-vaulted interior spaces.
Construction started in 1856 under Austrian control and paused during 1859 military campaigns. The fort was completed in 1861 as part of a regional defense system.
The fort displays characteristic features of 19th-century military design, with its octagonal shape immediately visible to anyone walking around. Moving through the structure, visitors notice the craftsmanship of the period in the vaulted ceilings and thick stone walls.
You can reach the fort from Peschiera del Garda by following the road toward Mantua and turning onto Via Mano di Ferro. The surroundings are walkable and easy to explore on foot.
The fort served for many years as an ammunition storage facility while maintaining its original structure. Today school groups use the site for educational visits.
