The Spedale del Bigallo features a five-arch loggia supported by quadrangular pillars, leading to a basement with historical laundry facilities and water channels.
The building, established in 1214 along the ancient Via Aretina, served as a shelter for poor travelers and pilgrims under the guidance of Dioticidiede di Bonaguida.
The emblem visible throughout the building displays a rooster with the letters S.M.B, representing Santa Maria del Bigallo and the Misericordia brotherhood.
The current municipal tourist facility maintains its historical elements while offering accommodations within walking distance of ancient water collection systems.
The monumental kitchen contains a large fireplace supported by stone columns, showcasing the medieval architectural techniques used for communal spaces.
