Santa Maria del Cengio, Medieval Catholic shrine in Isola Vicentina, Italy.

Santa Maria del Cengio is a church and convent complex in Isola Vicentina, built on a cengia, a ledge of white limestone and sandstone rock that gives the site its name. The church was enlarged in the second half of the 17th century with a left nave, a presbytery and side altars, and a small house serves as a hermitage. A wing perpendicular to the original convent was added in 1914 and enlarged between 1944 and 1945.

A church here is first documented in 1192 in the Centio Camerario, perhaps founded earlier as a pieve, a resting place for travellers or the chapel of an old castle. In 1447 Benedetto Zeno left fifty lire for a house for friars or hermits; on 7 March 1455 the bishop of Vicenza, Pietro Barbo, invested Battista di Normandia with the church, and on 24 June 1456 four Brigittine friars began convent life. They left in January 1462, and the Antonine canons of San Salvatore held the convent for over three hundred years until the Venetian decrees of 1768 and 1771 ended monastic life.

The name shifted over centuries: fourteenth-century documents call it Santa Maria a Zenglo or del Cigno, from macigno, and only in the seventeenth century did Santa Maria del Cengio prevail, after the limestone and sandstone cengia it stands on. The adjoining hermitage house recalls the eremitic use intended by Benedetto Zeno's 1447 bequest.

The church and convent stand on a rocky ledge above Isola Vicentina, reached by a climb; the complex includes a small house used as a hermitage. The convent wing was rebuilt and enlarged between 1914 and 1945, so parts of the buildings are 20th-century work. The friars of the Servi di Maria have run the site since 1904.
