Nuraghe Sa Domu 'e s'Orcu, Bronze Age archaeological site in Sarroch, Italy
Nuraghe Sa Domu 'e s'Orcu is a Bronze Age stone structure in Sarroch with two towers linked by a rectangular courtyard. The main tower stands at about 8 meters high and shows the typical construction style of Sardinian nuragic architecture.
The structure dates to Sardinia's nuragic period and was explored through excavations in 1924. The findings revealed multiple occupation layers that document continuous use of the site across centuries.
The name Sa Domu 'e s'Orcu means House of the Ogre and reflects local folklore woven into this Bronze Age stone structure. This connection between the ancient monument and popular stories continues to shape how locals perceive the place today.
Access to the site is via a walking path of about 300 meters from the parking area in Sarroch, marked with directional signs. The route is straightforward and easy to walk, as signage from the town is clearly visible.
The northern tower contains an internal corridor leading to an elevated terrace positioned four meters above ground level. This raised position once gave inhabitants a good view of the surrounding landscape.
