Eidechsspitze

Eidechsspitze is a summit in the southern Zillertal Alps that rises to 2,738 meters and features mixed alpine meadows alongside rocky slopes. The landscape combines open grassland with exposed rock faces that create distinct walking conditions across the mountain.

Local farmers created paths across the mountain over centuries as they moved between Terenten and Vintl for farming and daily work. Those historical routes form the basis of the hiking trails that exist on the mountain today.

The mountain serves as a meeting point for hikers from surrounding villages and is deeply rooted in local mountain traditions. The paths reflect generations of foot traffic and remain central to how residents spend time outdoors throughout the year.

The main trail starts from the Val Vena parking area near Terenten and involves a significant elevation gain that requires solid fitness level. Good mountain gear and sturdy footwear are necessary for handling the steep sections and rocky terrain.

From the summit you can clearly see neighboring peaks Monte Almerhorn and Monte Costa, which offer perspective on the wider mountain range. Hikers often spot chamois and other wild animals that inhabit this alpine zone.
