The Duchess of Carretto constructed the villa in the early 18th century before selling it to the Brentano family, who owned extensive land in Tremezzo.
The interior spaces contain numerous artistic works, including two paintings by Francesco Hayez and ceiling frescoes depicting scenes from the Aeneid.

From 1754, the villa housed Giuseppe Parini for nine years while he served as a tutor to Duke Gabrio Serbelloni's children.
