Foof Museo del Cane, Dog museum in Mondragone, Italy.
Foof Museo del Cane is a museum dedicated to the history and role of dogs throughout time, displaying more than 600 items across about 500 square meters of exhibition space. The displays include artworks, photographs, historical objects, and informational panels documenting the bond between humans and dogs.
The museum was established in 2012 through the transformation of an existing dog shelter by architect Vito Luigi Pellegrino. It became Italy's first institution of this kind, focusing from the start on education and the history of human-dog relationships.
The collection includes dog collars spanning centuries, from ancient Roman times to modern periods, alongside film posters showing dogs since the 1930s. These objects show how dogs have held important places in human culture across different eras.
The grounds can be explored on foot and feature green spaces, picnic areas, and shaded spots for resting. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and bring water on warm days, especially if planning to spend time in the outdoor areas.
Beyond the exhibitions, the facility operates as an active dog shelter and breeding program where visitors can encounter about 40 different breeds up close. Many of the animals have been rescued from difficult situations and are available for adoption by interested visitors.
