Torre di Velate

Torre di Velate is a stone tower in Velate near Varese that rises approximately 25 meters high. Its surviving north and east walls display four single-lancet windows carved from dressed stone blocks.

The tower was built during the 11th century as a defensive structure in the hills surrounding Varese. Its construction reflects how such buildings were once used to control and protect the area.

The tower belongs to Italy's national heritage network and draws visitors interested in medieval defensive architecture. Its presence in the landscape reminds people of the region's layered past and the skills of ancient builders.

The tower is accessible by way of Via alla Torre in Velate, served by regular bus connections from central Varese. Good walking shoes are recommended since the ground around it is uneven and exploration is best done on foot.

Traces of five additional floors above ground level can still be seen on the surviving walls today. These remains show how tall and complex the original structure once was.
