Palazzo del Governatore

Palazzo del Governatore is a palace on the northern side of Piazza Garibaldi in Parma, blending baroque and neoclassical design elements. Its yellow-toned facade and arched colonnades define the square's architectural character.

The structure was first built in 1283 as a palazzo for merchants. A tower collapse in 1606 prompted major rebuilding that shaped its current form.

The palace serves as an exhibition venue and regularly displays contemporary artworks from international creators. Visitors can experience rotating collections that reflect the city's active art scene.

The building sits directly on Piazza Garibaldi in central Parma and is easily reached on foot. The interior spaces offer accessibility and are open on multiple weekdays for visitors.

The facade features three complex sundials from the 19th century displaying different time calculations, seasonal markers, and zodiac signs. These astronomical engravings represent a rare craft detail that many visitors overlook.
