Santa Maria Assunta

Santa Maria Assunta is a minor basilica and parish church in Adria featuring an octagonal baptismal font and multiple artworks spanning different periods. The building contains a terracotta high relief attributed to Michele da Firenze along with religious paintings and sculptures displayed throughout the interior.

The building was originally constructed over the remains of an ancient pagan basilica and underwent significant renovations over the centuries. It reached its current form after major restoration work that was completed in 1718.

The interior displays frescos and sculptures created between the 15th and 16th centuries, including a depiction of the Assumption and various religious compositions. These artworks show how the church served as a center for artistic expression during the Renaissance period.

The basilica is located on Via Francesco Bocchi in the town center and is easily accessible on foot while exploring Adria. The church is generally open during regular hours and offers a calm space to walk through and observe its interior details.

The octagonal baptismal font dates from the 7th or 8th century and was discovered during excavations near the ancient thermal baths of Adria. This ancient artifact reveals the site had religious significance long before the current building was constructed.
